Water Gallon Challenge: Drink One Gallon of water a day - My First Week

Since Sunday July 30th, I started drinking 1 gallon of water a day.  Here are my thoughts on it for the almost first full week of doing it.

At first, it is hard to do it.  You might think that it would be easy to drink 1 gallon of water a day would be easy, but that can depend on how you manage your water intake.  Especially if you are like me, and constantly busy at your job, around your house, or doing other hobbies.  I am a Mechanical Engineer and have an office job.  My job does consist of walking around quite a bit, but you can get so caught up in work that you forget to get a drink.

The best way I have figured out how to manage water intake is setting aside a certain amount to drink each hour that you are awake each day.  There are 128 ounces in 1 gallon of water.  The average person is awake 16 hours a day (if you get 8 hours of sleep a night).  If you break that down, that is only 8 ounces of water an hour.  That makes it a lot more manageable to drink 1 gallon of water a day.

Other ways I have seen people get through there day is by marking up the water jug with various labels of encouragement.

Another way that I drink the water is by mixing it with powders from Advocare.  One thing I do is mix it with Advocare Spark while at work.  Another way is when I workout in the mornings before work (normally around 500-530 a.m.), is mixing it with an Advocare Meal Replacement Shake and Spark.

 

Here are the Pros & Cons I have found out during the first week of doing this:

Pros:

·         I am getting better sleep at night & falling asleep faster.

·         I have had a lot more energy and am less tired throughout the day.

·         I have been less hungry throughout the day.

·         I have gotten better workouts.

Cons:

·         You go to the bathroom, a lot and sometimes in the middle of the night.

·         Initially you will get bloated, a lot, then you pee a lot.

I have also seen some other bloggers and studies mention that you can could also lose weight (hence the eating less), lose your under eye circles (getting better sleep and more energy), and craving more water (why not, it is cheap and almost free and healthy for you since your body is made up of at least 60% water).

Overall, trying this is a great way to start getting healthy and getting a better you.  If you focus on having to drink the gallon each day, it deters you from wanting to drink the other unhealthy substances like soda.
